NYSED Turn Key Training Session: Rating the Enduring Issues Essay (Global II)
On Friday, August 24, 2018, the NYSCSS hosted an event on behalf of our colleagues at NYSED that was entitled, Turnkey Training for Rating the Enduring Issues Essay. This event took place at the Holiday Inn Express on Wolf Road in Albany from 12:30-4pm, approximately 20 educators from across NYS attended this worthwhile session. The intent of the event was to train a set of educators to serve as turnkey trainers on the Part 3 Enduring Issues Essay for the new Framework-based Regents Examination in Global History and Geography II (Grade 10). The goal is to provide consistent scorer training across New York State.
This session focused on training teachers to holistically score the Enduring Issue Essay. Participants trained on the draft rubric, reviewed student anchor papers, and scored practice papers. Discussions took place on how to facilitate the training of other teachers to rate the Enduring Issues Essay using a holistic rubric. Trainers were provided training materials to use when conducting teacher-rater training at the local level.
NYSCSS reached out to Local Council Presidents, Big 5 City School Districts Directors, and SCDN leaders because we wanted them to identify people in your region/organization that should attend this event. The key criteria we asked them to consider in their choice was:
NFCSS Representatives hosted for NYSED Turn Key Training:
Jon Dalbo; NFCSS Vice-President (West Seneca Central School District)
Tim Lent; NYCSS Secretary (New Visions)
Rich Pyszczek; NFCSS President (Buffalo Public Schools)
