Institute for Curriculum Services
May 2020 Seminar

NFCSS Sponsored Professional Development Sessions with ICS for WNY Educators

The Institute of Curriculum Services (ICS) provides free professional development workshops for schools and districts throughout the country focusing on Teaching about Religion in the Classroom, The Arab-Israeli Conflict and Peace Process, and History of European Antisemitism. These trainings support teachers in developing content knowledge and integrate best-practices and literacy strategies aligned with curriculum standards.

Due to the shelter in place order for COVID-19, ICS is currently offering these workshops virtually. Each workshop will be an hour long and hosted live on Zoom by an ICS Trainer-Educator. Participants will have access to ICS’s multitude of online resources including lesson plans, primary source documents, maps, and related multimedia resources needed to successfully incorporate these topics into newly virtual classrooms.

We are currently offering the following 3-Day Workshops with the NFCSS for teachers in the WNY Region:

Day 1: Teaching about Religion in the Classroom
Day 2: The Arab-Israeli Conflict and Peace Process
Day 3: History of European Antisemitism

Sessions will be May 4, 5 & 6 from 3:30-4:30pm EST please note that sessions are subject to change in the order they appear. The NFCSS will email the Zoom session link on May 3rd. Upon completion of all sessions the NFCSS will provide 3 hours of CTLE.

Space for this is extremely limited, we are only able to offer this opportunity to 25 NFCSS members in good standing. We are focusing this PD Session to teachers of either Global 1 (Grade 9) or Global II (Grade 10), possibly 6th Grade teachers as well.

Upon completion of all three sessions, participants will receive a $100 stipend.
To be eligible to receive the $100 stipend from ICS the NFCSS participant must agree to:
(1) register with the NFCSS/ICS by 5pm on May 1,
(2) attend all three sessions as scheduled,
(3) NOT disseminate the lessons, resources or concepts discussed from these sessions for a fee of any amount.
