Global Studies II Revisions February 5, 2019
FYI
Minor Revision to the Design of the Regents Examination in Global History & Geography II (Grade 10) and Updated Educator Guide
Minor Revision to the Design of the Regents Examination in Global History & Geography II (Grade 10) and Updated Educator Guide
- Based on analysis of field test results and out of an abundance of caution, a decision has been made to remove the two 1-point part 2b questions planned for inclusion in Part II of the Regents Examination in Global History and Geography II (Grade 10).
- The Educator Guide has been updated to reflect the revised test design. In addition, revised question prototypes (i.e., no longer showing part 2b) for Part II of this examination have been provided in the new addendum included at the end of the Educator Guide.
- The updated Educator Guide is posted on the Office of State Assessment’s Global History II website.
- Please contact the Office of State Assessment at [email protected] or call 518-474-5902 with questions.

NYSED Updates from September 8, 2018 NYSCSS Board of Directors Meeting
Where to get Info
EngageNY does not have the most up to date information, so educators should be keeping an eye on the Office of State Assessment's page instead.
Development Timeline
The people working on the US History Exam have developed claims, evidence, and PLDs with CAP for the new exam and are testing parts 2 and 3 in schools in October. There will be field tests of the whole exam in the Spring.
More Specifics on Each Section
Part 1 Multiple Choice will be the same as Global, they are even using the same task models.
Part 2 uses the same skill sets, but a different format, they will be more like short answer essay type questions than individual questions like Global, so it looks like NYSED is trying to communicate a skills ladder between the Global and US courses.
Part 3 is going to be similar for US, but with "a different set up." This section will be more "civic literacy" than Enduring Issue and suggested that this part of the exam will emphasize the "Government" part of US History and Government.
Current Exam and New US Exam Offered Concurrently
There will not be a Transition Exam for US History, but SED is going to offer the current US exam for four administrations while the new exam is also offered for students who failed the old exam. So, for June 2020, August 2020, January 2021, and June 2021, both the current US exam and the new US exam will be offered.
Be Patient for Global Conversion Chart
Quite a few people all over the state were frustrated with how long it took for the Global Transition Conversion Chart to come out and as a result knew about students' graduation status right before the ceremony. NYSED recommends that schools push back their celebrations this year because they expect it to take even longer to the get the conversion chart for the new exam. No date yet, but longer than last year.
