Social Studies educators teach students the content knowledge, intellectual skills, and civic values necessary for fulfilling the duties of citizenship in a participatory democracy. The mission of the Niagara Frontier Council for the Social Studies is to provide leadership, service, and support for all Social Studies educators in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Orleans, Niagara and Wyoming counties.

NFCSS/NYPHT is the regional professional organization of social studies educators in WNY. Our members are committed to ensuring that all students graduate from high school and college ready for lifelong learning, engaging careers, and active civic life. Membership in NFCSS is open to all who are interested in social studies education as:

The NFCSS has a strong working relationships with the New York State Education Department (NYSED). Because of you, the NFCSS has been able to participate in the:

- Advocacy at the state and national levels in changes to regulations, policies, curriculum frameworks, and assessments – your voice matters!
- Professional development tailored to your needs during a time of change and limited resources.
- Service in the social studies community. You can lead professional development committees, present on instructional practice at conferences and in our newsletter, and serve on our board.
The NFCSS has a strong working relationships with the New York State Education Department (NYSED). Because of you, the NFCSS has been able to participate in the:
- Development of the New York State Learning Standards for Social Studies.
- Creation of the Social Studies Core Curriculum and state assessments at all levels.
- Revision of Social Studies Frameworks in the Common Core era.
- Organization of Social Studies Summits at NYSED to inform policy changes.
- Creation of the Seal of Civic Readiness by NYSED.
- Bring back the New York State Conference on History.
